The 3.5" floppy drive was a vast improvement over the 5.25" floppy because of its decreased size, expanded storage capacity and rugged housing. Many people still believe the 3.5" floppy isn't really a floppy because the casing is hard - they don't realize the term "floppy" is given to the storage medium itself, not the housing.
