Not everyone knows that one of my side interests is in typography. Indeed when Peregrine Findings first moved to Word Press from Blogger I spent quite a bit of type on customizing the typography of the site and I have to say that I loved the look. Unfortunately, security updates and version updates makes customizations cumbersome as they have to be re-done often. That’s why my site looks default out-of-the box. I got tired of spending hours and hours re-doing all my work. Finally gave up. But I digress.

I stumbled across a German web site called the 100 Best Fonts that shows a little history of each font and links to where you can download them. Being able to read German (and speak some) I found the site fascinating. You could use bablefish or some such service to translate it for you. But it was fun. Die 100 Besten Schriften

I just spent the evening upgrading to the most recent version of WordPress (2.1 to be exact) and managed to kill most of my plugins in the process. That wasn’t fun. And I still have one that doesn’t work at all, Advanced WYSISYG Editor, and I’ll have to figure that out some other time. But while I was out-and-about looking to fix the plugin I discovered a new WordPress theme.

The theme of which I speak is the CLI Theme and you have got to check it out. As soon as I saw it and tried the demo I knew that Seth would love it. Try it out, it’s awesome.

I would also have to say how much I love the Sidebar Widgets plugin.

Our daughter is finally old enough to sell Girl Scout Cookies — a dream of mine and my fat butt for many years now. You know these things are good and I’ve heard that in war-torn countries these cookies are so valuable they have replaced the local currency, with the Samoa being called “Tonko Fakatau” or “Sweet Gold” and the popular Thin Mint being called “Mallo Pico” or “Heaven’s Breath.” One Samoa is worth a gallon of petrol.

I found an interesting website today. Geni.com is a simple site that will build your family tree asking for e-mail addresses so you can stay in touch with everyone. It will send an e-mail to those you put in so they can help build their family trees as well.

It’s an excellent idea as long as they never sell those e-mail addresses to spammers nor allow spammers to “link in” to other trees. Perhaps it’s not worth that much trouble for spammers now days as there are probably plenty of ways to harvest vast amounts of addresses anyway.

But it’s a fun idea.

Thanks to Craig for his great question about TiVo. My first generation TiVo still uses a modem to connect and download channel information and it just won’t dial over the SunRocket line. I’ve tried a whole bunch of stuff but just can’t seem to get it to work. I’m not sure of what I’m planning to do but I’ve got some ideas.

If anyone else has some ideas please let me know.

As for the SunRocket service, we are using it as a second line right now while our primary phone number is ported. No complaints and I love the on-line voice mail access. I also like being able to block numbers by putting them on a web page. Perhaps I can build some kind of automated interface for adding numbers to the block list or something.

I’ll keep everyone up-to-date on the SunRocket experience.
