Happy Pi Day!

General No Comments

Not many people celebrate Pi Day but being the mathematician at heart that I am, I do. What is Pi Day you ask? Well, it is March 14 and traditionally celebrated at 1:59 PM. Still don’t get it?

Pi = 3.14159… so you celebrate on 3.14 at 15:59.

I celebrated by eating pie, a Chocolate Silk pie to be exact. Then I sang the Pi Day song. Yes, there is a song, several in fact.

Oh Number PI

Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
Your digits are unending,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
No pattern are you sending.
You’re three point one four one five nine,
And even more if we had time,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
For circle lengths unbending.

Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
You are a number very sweet,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
Your uses are so very neat.
There’s 2 Pi r and Pi r squared,
A half a circle and you’re there,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
We know that Pi’s a tasty treat.

(to the tune of “Oh Christmas Tree”)

If you missed it this year be sure to catch it next year. And while we are talking about fun days to celebrate, don’t forget July 11 (7/11) when 7-11 gives out free Slurpies all day long!

Sexy Web Charts

If you, like me, have long understood the power of graphs and charts then I am pleased to tell everyone about Fusion Charts by InfoSoft Global.

If these guys weren’t from England I would swear they were American because where else could someone make a living by selling Flash-based graphs and charts?

But all kidding aside, these things kick butt. They look good, they work, and they know their audience. I mean, just check out the 3-D Presentation Pie Chart with it’s click-able pie slices and angle rotation. I shows this to our finance guy and he almost [censored] on the spot.

Or check out the combination graph that can switch between 2-D and 3-D on the fly! These things are uber-cool!
