Description: Digital Audio Tape (DAT) was originally designed for CD quality audio on a tape. Since the data was stored digitally, some data storage manufacturers used this tape format for computer storage. The DAT was also known as a 4 mm tape. The read / write head is the cylendrical object sitting on a tilt (hard to see the tilt). This drive is unique because it broke while a tape was mounted and if you look carefuly, you can see the tape still stretched across the read / write head. Donated by Ralph W. Howland |
